You will have to have access to JSTOR in order to read this article, and it’s worth the read if you do. If not, the article goes on to explain how today’s ubiquitous QWERTY keyboard was first introduced on typewriters decades ago. And you can spell “typewriter” using the top (QWERTY) row.
